Niseido® Ju Jitsu is a 100% full defensive martial art.
Unlike many other styles of martial arts, Niseido® Ju Jitsu continually strives to live up to the seven principles of the Code of Bushido: Humility, Truthfulness, Bravery, Benevolence, Compassion, Sincerity, Loyalty and Devotion to God, our country, families, friends, and to every aspect of life.
Tom Szembruch II had his Yellow Belt Test on Saturday May 12 at 10:00 am at our new location. He was officially the first person to test there. Tom did a great job plowing through it in 45 minutes. He did get the Niseido eye opener at the end.
His commented that he could not believe that our yellow belt test is that strenuous. Where have we heard that before??

Monday night was our first class at the new location. I met with Derek Touchette, owner of Velocity Sports Performance, yesterday to turn in our keys just before class started. It was sad to see them breaking down all their equiptment to move out by the weekend. We had a great partnership! We truly wish them the best of success at their new location at the YMCA.
Class started promptly at 7:00 and we trained until 9:00. The mat space is about 3 times longer than what we had at Velocity. We heard a lot of huffing and puffing at the end of warm ups! It was a great first class.
Bill Oliver stopped by to introduce himself to the students which I thought was great. The first item of business before we bowed in was to put the picture of the Prof up on the wall. That made everything official.

Velocity Sports Performance will be closing its doors on March 29th. They will be relocating to the YMCA on a temporary arrangement until the YMCA builds them a new building. Their new building will be much smaller that where they are now so space will be at a premium. The current landlords on Collier Blvd were not willing to renegotiate their lease to the current market conditions so vacating was an immediate request by them.
We tried looking at the YMCA as well only to discover how disorganized they are in dealing with new programs. We made several calls and were bounced around like a ping pong ball for two weeks. It just didn’t seem like something I wanted to peruse.
I ran into a friend of mine at lunch a few weeks ago and an opportunity presented itself. Bill Oliver just opened the Aiki Ju Jitsu School at the Marquesa Plaza, 13040 Livingston Road Suite #19 Naples Florida this month and asked if we could partner up. That agreement has jelled this week so we will officially move on the 3rd of April. Bill is a true martial arts warrior with many years of combat training in the Army Special Forces. For quite some time I trained with him in the morning when he was at The Florida Karate Center. He continues to work with the US Military under a civilian arrangement.
Class times will have to adjust temporarily until we can tweak things a bit. Class times will adjust by one hour. The new schedule will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 9. Kids and adults can bow in at 7 with the kids getting off the mats at 8:00. Adults can stay up to 9:00. If they need to leave a bit early that will be fine. My suggestion is that the kids get their homework done by class time so the adjustment should be minimal at best. We will be working towards a 6:00 time slot however it make take a month or two to get it done.
Saturdays class will now be from 10:00 on so the kids can sleep in a bit.
Club dues will remain pretty much the same. We negotiated a very good arrangement with adults at 100.00 and kids at 65.00. Obviously we are now in a higher rent situation than with Velocity’s overflow room.
I am excited about this location since we will now have premium visibility being located next to Anytime Fitness, First Watch Restaurant and Starbucks not to mention 5 Guys Burgers. It was the closest location I could find from velocity so the travel adjustment will be minimal. In some cases it will be shorter travel.
If anyone has a question, thought or concern please feel free to give me a call on my cell.
Our schedule will remain the same at Velocity until the end of March.

We had a special guest visitor this weekend. Professor Rick Riccardi came over for a few meetings as well as a wedding on Saturday at the Ritz Carlton. As a result he stayed at our home for a few days. It’s always a pleasure having him in our home as it gives us some very special one on one time.
We also had our year end pizza party at iL Primo’s on Thursday night and were blessed to have the Professor be part of the festivities. We had over 20 in attendance and would have had more if so many of our kids weren’t out of town. This year the Student of The Year Award went to my Grandson Brandon Jarbo. Brandon has just turned 16 in October and has really been stepping up to the plate at our club this past year. The kids love working with him and so do I. He will be looking at Purple very soon. The heat is on!
On Saturday morning the Prof. and I along with my 13 year old Granddaughter Makaila went to the firing range in Fort Myers for some practice time. Makaila has never fired a weapon in her life. I got her all set up with my stainless steel Smith and Wesson 357 magnum loaded with 38 specials. What a first gun ? it was the smallest one I had. Her target silhouette was set up around 40 to 45 feet away. Her first shot was absolutely impressive as the photo will show. The best of a bull’s eye! I thought that it might have been luck however she continued to demonstrate great marksmanship for the rest of the session.
The Prof’s aim on the other hand told a very different story as the photos will clearly show. Here’s a link to the weekends photos. The Prof’s target is the one after Makaila’s
I also want to take a moment and wish everyone a Very Happy New Year! May 2012 bring you great health and prosperity.

Good Morning Everyone,
Wow, what a great weekend. After finally catching up on some shut eye I was reflecting this morning and in true Niseido fashion the Niseido warriors crammed a weeks worth of festivities into about a 48 hour period. It is a tradition that seems to have started about 16 years ago.
This past weekend me and my traveling companions, Jorge Oceguera, Robert Chisum, and Tyler Taylor arrived into Louisville, KY late Friday night. We met up Sensei Phillip Klarer, Sensei Rick Parlente and Sensei Rich Azadian after we checked in. We all visited a little bit and then called it a night. The next morning started off with a good breakfast and meeting up with everyone that was there for Sempai Jim Mahanes Shodan exam which was to be held later that morning.
After our normal hellos, and greetings, and hugs (don’t forget all the hugs), the bows, the retold stories that never get old and are always funny, the deciding we are going leave only to get side tracked again with stopping to talk about something that I’m sure couldn’t wait until later. Finally The Old Prof. asks, ” What in the ‘world’ are we waiting on” and then everybody moving like their butts are on fire, most of us managed to make it up to our rooms and then back down in a matter of minutes. After waiting again for a “few” minutes we were then off the the testing venue some going different routes than everybody else, but Sensei Phillip won’t be mentioned as he had a big enough weekend himself. All this might sound like we were late, however, Sempai Jim, actually worked all of that into our itinerary and we were actually early, even Sensei Dr. Pichardo, if you can believe that.
Then the test time was upon us and Sempai Jim’s moment to shine was here. As a nervous Jim Mahanes started his exam he rose to occasion like he needed to. It may have taken some words of encouragement form myself, Sensei Phillip, Prof., Prof Tom, and most notably Professor Mike Junsch, but then everybody in this position of testing is always encouraged. When Jim was tired he kept going, when Jim was banged up he kept going, when Jim was exhausted he kept going, that was the theme, he might slowed at times, but he never stopped, he might have wanted it to be over with, but he saw the only way for that to happen was to move forward, and he did. In the end Semapi Jim had earned the rank of Shodan and is now the first Sensei in Niseido Ju Jitsu in Louiville, KY, and the third in the central region. Great job Sensei Jim.
After the test we all went our separate ways, some of us got some more shut eye, some of us had to drive back to TN, some of us got some good eats and others prepared for the evenings festivities. We rounded up later only to eat again and a great banquet Sensei Jim’s family put together. And later most of us went to see the UFC and a place called Fox and Hound were Gokyu Frisco Heil had reserved our table right in front of the screens. It was so special I think it irritated some of the other patrons that were already present, but we are such a large group, they seemed to get over it.
This weekend could not have been as successful with noticing a lot of people. First it should be recognized that Sensei Jim’s group of guys Sean, Rick, Frisco, Josh and Caleb and a few others made everyone feel like they were home away from home. All of them carted us around, made sure we all had a place to stay and were taken care of no matter what. Sensei Jim’s mother and his wife Missy and the rest of his family were there every step of the way making sure that we had seats, tables, food, and any animenity we could imagine. Sensei Jim you have a great support group. Then there were the out of town guests. The Prof., none of us could even imagine such a great group of guys if you hadn’t led the way thank you so much for all that you do for us. Prof. Junsch, thank for your continued support and drive to continue to make everything possible in Niseido I hope the training went well on Sunday. Prof. Taylor, thank you for taking time out of your weekend to be there and support Jim. I hope the ride wasn’t to long with Brian Burns. Randy Smith, Sensei Rich, Vinny, Prof., Tom, Sensei Dr. Pichardo, Sensei Jesus, Matt Slipher, John John Zavisa, Jorge Oceguera, Robert Chisum, and Tyler Taylor, thank you all for being there all of you guys are truly what help make these weekend unbelievable and very special for all those present. I hope that I didn’t miss anyone, if I did I’m sorry it cetainly wasn’t intentional.
So everyone please join in congratulating our newest Shodan Jim Mahanes.
Sincerely,
Sensei Lane, Sandan, CRD

To: Members of the Niseido Ju Jitsu Federation
From: Professor Michael Junsch 10th Dan
Chairman of the Board of Professors
Bay Ridge Dojo Brooklyn N.Y.
Upon conferring with members of the Board of Professors and unanimous approval, I am pleased to inform you that the time for Niseido Ju Jitsu to expand is upon `us. We just needed to make sure we found the right fit; and we have.
As you all know, for the past several years we have had a satellite dojo in Talkeetna, Alaska. While they are versed in all things their specialty is Mixed Martial Arts. According to O’ Sensei Rick,”they are respected because of their humility, professionalism and martial arts skills, especially judo”. Under the guidance of O’Sensei Rick, they have stayed the course remaining loyal to the Supreme Grandmaster and Niseido Ju Jitsu. We felt it was time to reciprocate their loyalty.
The Board took into consideration the following:
* Loyalty to O’Sensei and Niseido Jujitsu
* Have proven to follow the Niseido Ju Jitsu Code of Bushido
* Committed to the ideals of Niseido Jujitsu
* Motivation and passion, students travel 80 miles to train
Effective immediately the Talkeetna Dojo ,Alaska will be the first dojo to be accepted to the Niseido Ju Jitsu Mixed Martial Arts Division and membership to the Niseido Ju Jitsu Federation where they will adhere to the same principles and policies, including federation dues and promotion fees. There may be a time when other MMA schools may be considered for membership. However, the bar is raised high due to the quality of Peter Keenan and his students. Peter will receive the rank of Nikyu and will be appointed the interim regional director of the newly formed North West Region under the direction of O’Sensei Rick. O’Sensei Rick with Peter will work out as to promotion criteria and name change of his dojo to reflect his membership to our federation. At that time a recommendation will be made to the Board of Professors.
This is an exciting time for our federation and a true testament to the ideals of Niseido Ju Jitsu and the ‘Ole Prof”. It is my hope that you recognize our action as a positive sign and a strong addition to our art.
Please join me in extending an official welcome to our newest members in Talkeetna ,Alaska
For all that is good in Niseido Ju Jitsu and its membership, I remain,
Sincerely Yours,
Professor Michael Junsch
Chairman Board of Professors
2 new Junior Yellow Belts were awarded at the Naples Club Monday night. Max Decker, age 11 and Hiliadys Perez, age 8, successfully completed all the requirements for Jr. Yellow. It is amazing to see how serious they both were in getting the job done. Just to tire them out I had to jump in and have a session of back to back. Max had a legitimate kesa gatame on me for sure. Based on their performance and attitude at these young ages I see them being serious practitioners as they grow older.
Hi Everyone,
Monday, July 18 we had a few visitors from the Naples Dojo. Sensei Rick, Rob Stuve, Sensei grandchildren, Brandon and Kayla, Rob’s daughters Alyssa and Sarah. While here, we tested Brandon (age 15) for Yonkyu Green Belt. He got a good taste of testing in the humidity. He sucked wind, but persevered. In the end, He was smiling and looked pretty good wearing a Green Belt. They Left here a bit after ten PM and had to make the 150 mile trip home. Congratulations Brandon.
Also, Brandon will be joining us on our trip to Louisville.
Love,
Prof
